Building Updates: Grand Staircase In Place, Sheathing Installation Begins

Every day there is more progress on the church building and parking garage. It is fun to see the progress and we hope you will walk down to the construction site after church to see it for yourself. Beginning on Wednesday, Aug. 19th, JR Abbott Construction will be closing the Denny Way sidewalk from 2nd Ave. N. to Warren Ave. N. This closure will last about 30 days. The closure is required to install the church's south-facing exterior wall and the parking garage's south-facing walls and planters. This closure will also allow them to perform a restoration on the sidewalk itself and the alley approach on Denny Way.

On the parking garage side, the last half-level will be poured by press time. It is amazing to see the number of workers it takes to build the forms and pour the concrete on each level of the garage. Now they have a lot of finish work to do on the lower levels as the upper levels of concrete cure.

On the church building, scaffolding is rising on three sides of the building and on the south side on Aug. 19th. We will soon start to see the sheathing, vapor barriers, and brick go up on the exterior of the building. This will make it harder to see what is going on inside the building, and there is a lot going on. Most of the plumbing, mechanical and electrical are done on the first floor as the metal studs for the walls are up. You can really see where fellowship hall, kitchen, offices, restrooms, elevator and hallways are located. The grand staircase from the 2nd floor sanctuary level to the 1st floor offices and fellowship hall is now in place.
